Little Creators Lab is a free, weekly Saturday enrichment program designed for students in grades 1–5, where creativity and curiosity come together in a supportive AND fun environment! Each session mixes art, creative writing, and hands-on STEM activities, giving students the chance to explore new ideas while building confidence and community.
Held from 12:00 to 1:00 PM every Saturday at Interfaith Works in Rockville, the program is open to families across Montgomery County, with a strong focus on accessibility for those who may benefit most from free enrichment opportunities. All curriculum, materials, and instruction are thoughtfully prepared and led by Heart & Hands volunteers at no cost to families.
Throughout our sessions, students have had the opportunity to dive into a wide range of engaging, interactive projects. They’ve decorated their own journals and used them to write and share original stories, turning simple materials into something personal and meaningful. In our STEM activities, students have taken on fun engineering challenges like building towers out of spaghetti and marshmallows, learning about structure, stability, and teamwork along the way. We’ve also explored science through creativity—crafting butterflies and caterpillars while learning about metamorphosis, paired with a reading of The Very Hungry Caterpillar to bring the lesson to life. In another session, students experimented with colors through hands-on activities, discovering how colors mix and change while expressing themselves artistically. Each activity is designed not only to teach concepts in art, science, and writing, but also to create moments of joy, imagination, and connection that students carry with them beyond the classroom.
